Blood Test Watchdog

Red flags in blood testing, checked

Every service we track against the same checks: is the lab named, does a clinician review results, how much of the marker count is arithmetic, and what the privacy policy says.

The short version
Of the 21 services we track, 2 do not name the lab that runs the samples, 3 say no clinician reviews results, 3 list a plan where calculated values make up 30% or more of the markers, and 10 market a count at least 25% above what the published list measures. Read October 31, 2026.

The four checks, counted

2

do not name the lab that runs the samples

3

say no clinician reviews your results

3

list a plan with 30%+ calculated values

10

market a count 25%+ above what they measure

Every service, the same checks

Highest score first. Marker figures are from the plan with the longest published list. "Calculated" means ratios, indices and other values worked out from measured results. Each provider name links to its review, where every fact has its source.

The warning signs, explained

  • No named lab

If a provider will not say which lab runs your sample, you cannot look up its CLIA certificate.

  • No clinician review

Some services only have a doctor sign the order. Nobody reviews your results unless you pay for it.

  • Health data shared with advertisers

The lab is covered by HIPAA. The app you buy from often is not. Read what its privacy policy allows.

  • "100+ biomarkers", mostly arithmetic

Ratios and indices worked out from other results pad a count without one extra measurement.

  • A monthly price that hides the year

A low monthly kit can cost more per year than a full membership. We show the yearly figure.

  • Renewals you did not plan

Most memberships renew at the then-current price and refund nothing once blood is drawn.

How these feed the score is on our methodology page. Marker counts follow the rules on Compare biomarkers.
